What Is Top Rope Climbing?

Top rope climbing involves a rope that runs from the climber, up through an anchor at the top of the wall, and back down to a belayer who manages the rope. This setup offers a high level of safety and is perfect for beginners and experienced climbers alike.

What You’ll Learn in This Induction

​

  • How to wear a harness properly

  • How to tie the figure-eight follow-through knot

  • How belaying works, and what your belayer does

  • Climbing commands (e.g., “Climbing?”, “Climb on!”)

  • Basic safety checks before climbing

  • How to communicate and descend safely

​

Your Responsibilities

​

  • Listen carefully to instructions from staff

  • Always perform safety checks with your partner before climbing

  • Stay aware of your surroundings and other climbers

  • Speak up if you’re unsure—there are no bad questions

​

Climbing Gear Provided

​

  • Harness

  • Climbing shoes (optional but recommended)

  • Belay device and carabiner

  • Helmet (optional)

Safety First

Our team is here to ensure a safe environment for everyone. All climbers must pass a quick safety check before using the top rope area independently. You’ll always have staff support nearby if you need help.

Once you’ve completed the induction, you’re ready to enjoy the wall! Take your time, climb within your comfort level, and most importantly—have fun.

Pricing

The course is 2 x 2 - 90 mins sessions and costs £60 pp â€‹

Its is best done as a pair. 

We can run this course for up to 6 people per session
